Google Launches Agent Development Kit (ADK), OpenAI Upgrades ChatGPT With Comprehensive Memory Feature, How To Build AI Assistants In Slack

Hey friend,

Today, we’ll explore

  • Google’s new Agent Development Kit (ADK)

  • New memory features in ChatGPT

  • Another Google release - A2A - a protocol for Agent communication

  • How to build AI assistants in Slack

Let's dive in.

AI News

Here’s my pick of AI news this week:

1. Google Launches Agent Development Kit (ADK) For Multi-Agent AI Systems

At Cloud Next 2025, Google introduced its Agent Development Kit (ADK), an open-source framework designed to simplify the creation and deployment of AI agents. I was particularly impressed by the focus on being ‘production ready’ and the ADK has a great developer experience.

Developers can explore the framework via the ADK documentation and sample agents.

2. OpenAI Upgrades ChatGPT With Comprehensive Memory Feature

OpenAI released an important update to ChatGPT. It can now automatically remember and reference information across all user conversations The start to a more personalised and useful chat experience.

The update, rolling out first to Pro and Plus subscribers (excluding the EU, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein due to regulatory reviews), allows ChatGPT to build context across chats without explicit user prompts.

These changes make ChatGPT feel more “personal”. What’s interesting is the move more to OpenAI building product features rather than focussing on models which are becoming a commodity.

3. Google Unveils A2A Protocol For AI Collaboration

Another exciting announcement from Google Cloud Next 25. Google introduced the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, an open standard designed to enable seamless communication and collaboration between AI agents, regardless of vendor or underlying framework. With backing from over 50 technology partners, including Atlassian, Box, Salesforce, and SAP, A2A aims to unlock new levels of automation and efficiency in enterprise workflows.

  • A2A is an open proposal aimed at making AI agents much more collaborative and useful.

  • Instead of isolated tools, we could have dynamic teams of agents working together to tackle complex tasks more efficiently.

  • It's still early days (it's an open-source project, inviting collaboration), but it’s a significant step towards a future where our Agents are truly interconnected.

4. Github Agent Mode Released

Github quietly added “Agent Mode” to VS Code, it’s popular IDE for software developers. Many third party tools have built on VS Code to offer these features (Cursor), so it’s no surprise Microsoft wanted to catch up.

Tip: Google Sheets ‘AI’ Formula

Google has a killer spreadsheet feature few people know about. This has so much potential for anyone who uses spreadsheets to manage their data.

To generate columns of data, you can enter a specific prompt to describe your desired action and add an optional range: =AI("prompt", [optional range])

How to enable this:

  1. Go to Gemini for Google Workspace settings

  2. Enable "Alpha Features"

  3. Go to Google Sheets

  4. Use the formula '=AI'

Example: =AI("Categorise the customer enquiry as a compliment, exchange request or return request.", A2)

Tutorial: How To Build Your Own AI Assistant In Slack With N8N

This week I made a tutorial showing how to build your own AI assistant using Slack and N8N. I go step-by-step through the process, so you know exactly how to bring AI assistants into your Slack workspace.

You can easily take these concepts and expand them to create sophisticated automations for your own team or even build valuable solutions for clients looking to streamline their Slack workflows.
