How to use Perplexity as a content creator
Let’s dive in.
Perplexity AI is a search tool that uses AI to find and explain information from the internet. It gives clear, sourced answers that help you understand topics faster and easier than traditional search engines.
You can treat Perplexity like any other LLM providing it prompts and detailed instructions for how it should return information to you (e.g formatting).
The Problem
Content creators face challenges researching ideas and ensuring they provide accurate, helpful information. We will use Perplexity to perform research and generate valuable tips we can use in our content.
Let’s assume you have an idea for a piece of content: “7 Brutal Mistakes New Managers Make”. We’ll use Perplexity to take this idea and return ideas we can use for our content.
Notice that Perplexity will return citations in its response. While useful in the web browser, they become problematic when we can use the output elsewhere. We’ll remove these by giving Perplexity explicit formatting instructions for its response.
The Prompt
## Task
You are a highly experienced content researcher.
Perform an exhaustive search on this topic:
{{ 7 Brutal Mistakes New Managers Make }}
Find the most interesting and valuable insights.
Your output must follow the template below.
## Template
Topic: X
Key Points:
1/ Title
Summary ...
[Repeat]
## Output
Return your output as plain text. Remove citations from the response.
The Result

As you can see, the results are well-researched and useful, but they are also returned precisely as we wanted them in terms of formatting.
While formatting may seem trivial in this example, it becomes incredibly powerful when we use Perplexity as part of an automation workflow.
We can take this researched response and turn it into a valuable piece of content as a later step.
